ED411 event brings together 11 counties to discuss regionalism and growth in a new era

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 2, 2022 – Today, leaders throughout the Columbus Region gathered at the annual ED411 event at the Ohio Union to discuss the impact of economic development, the Region’s trajectory and the industries and priorities that are central to future growth.
Hosted by the Mid-Ohio Development Exchange (MODE) and One Columbus, ED411 featured speakers Matt Sigelman, president of Burning Glass Institute, Rana Foroohar, Global Business Columnist and an associate editor at the Financial Times, Lt. Governor Jon Husted and more to discuss the accomplishments and outlook of economic development in the Region.
Year to date, economic development projects across the Columbus Region’s 11 counties yielded 47 expansions and new locations, 7,981 new jobs created, $21.3 billion of capital invested and $771.9 million of new payroll created.
“We’ve reached a pivotal moment for the Columbus Region. We’re at a new level of economic growth,” said Kenny McDonald, president and CEO of the Columbus Partnership. “Economic development requires cross-sector engagement, and our work together as a region will never be more important than it is now. The attendees that joined us today and the collaboration the Columbus Region is known for is how we’ve achieved our past success, and it is how we will become a more prosperous place in the future.”
While the Columbus Region is wrapping up a record year of growth, new projects and jobs created, all discussions today focused on where the Region is headed in 2023 and beyond.
Looking ahead, the Region has a strong pipeline of potential projects in a variety of industries including manufacturing, semiconductors, electric vehicles, life sciences and more. It’s also seeing strong international activity from Japan and South Korea. Of 127 current active projects, 60% are in the manufacturing sector, 44% are international, 25% are semiconductor-related, and 21% will generate more than 500 jobs and/or $500 million investment.
